Uploading your website with Filezilla

When you open Filezilla for the first time, you can quickly become intimidated by the large amount of information in the main window. Using Filezilla is easier than it looks and it becomes even easier when you understand the parts of the main window and their specialized functions.

After you have established a connection from your computer and our ftp server, the Main Window will show all of the files and folders on your computer on the left hand side of the main menu. If there are any accessible files on your ftp server will show up on the right hand side of the window.

The menu and toolbar are at the top of the window. The menu and toolbar allows you to access the functions that you will need to use Filezilla. The layout of the Main Window can be changed to best suit your needs.

At the bottom of the Main Window you will see the Transfer Queue. The Transfer Queue will record all of the actions you take while connected to the ftp server. Your status messages will also be displayed in the Transfer Queue.. You will also see the file transfer process in the Transfer Queue.

The main parts of the Filezilla ftp program Main Window are the menu bar, that will give you access to all parts of the Filezilla program. You can also change the default setting using the menu bar.

The toolbar is also displayed at the top of the Main Window. The toolbar allows you to easily access the most common Filezilla functions.

The Quickconnect Bar will allow you to create to an ftp server without creating a new site profile for the server. This can save you a lot of time.

The Message Log is located below the list boxes. This will log all messages that you receive from the ftp server as well as all activity initiated from your computer.

The Local View will show the current folder on your computer at the top of the file tree. All files on your computer are accessible through the Local View Pane.

The Remote View window operates much like the Local View Window, except that it shows all of the files that are on the ftp server. The tree is hidden by default, but you can access the tree by using the Menu Bar.

The Transfer Queue is the heart and soul of Filezilla. This is where the files that you want to transfer are listed before they are transferred to your ftp server. The status of the files that you are transferring will be listed in the Transfer Queue.

The Status Bar is located below the Transfer Queue and will provide more information about your transfers. This will show you the amount of time that has elapsed from the beginning of the transfer, the amount of progress that the file has made and the amount of bytes that have been tranfserred. If a file is green, it is being received from the ftp server. Sent files are listed as red.
